Eligibility Criteria for NSP Scholarship 2023-24

  1. The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  2. Eligibility: The scholarship will be awarded to students who have secured more than 50% marks in the previous final examination and their parents/guardian’s annual income from all sources should be between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh Per Annum. (Maximum limits of family income vary for different scholarships)
  3. Pre-Matric: The scholarship will be awarded for studies in India in a government school from class I to class X.
  4. Post-Matric: The scholarship is to be awarded for studies in India in a government or private higher secondary school/college/ university. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) of classes XI and XII level including Polytechnics and other courses.
  5. The following categories of applicants are eligible for NSP scholarship schemes offered on the NSP Portal:
    • Scheduled Caste (SC)
    • Scheduled Tribe (ST)
    • Other Backward Class (OBC)
    • Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
    • Minority Communities

What is NSP (National Scholarship Portal) ?

NSP- National Scholarships Portal is one-stop solution through which various services starting from student application, application receipt, processing, sanction and disbursal of various scholarships to Students are enabled. National Scholarships Portal is taken as Mission Mode Project under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP)

NSP Pre Matric and Post Matric Scholarships Selection Process

The selection process for Pre Matric and Post Matric fresh and renewal applicants are as given below:

For Fresh Applicants Selection Process

As the number of NSP scholarships for minorities available in a year is fixed and limited, it is necessary to lay down preference for selection. Inter selection weightage is to be given to poverty rather than marks (the applicant is required to submit an income certificate as per para-11(ii)). In case of same income, merit shall be generated from ‘Date of Birth’ criteria of applicant (senior is preferred).

For Renewal Applicants Selection Process

There is no merit list generation for renewal cases. Renewal applicant will get the scholarship if one has obtained 50% in his/her previous year’s examinations (at the same institute and in same course) and his/her application is verified by all authorities (as designated by Ministry of Minority Affairs) and approved by State Governments/UTs.

NSP Scholarships Distribution Rule

Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been notified as minority communities under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. A total of five (05) lakh online scholarships are targeted to be distributed as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships, besides, Renewal scholarships. The distribution of scholarship among the States/Union Territories will be made on the basis of population of minorities in the States/Union Territories as per Census 2001 for 2017-18 and as per the population of minorities in the States/Union Territories of Census 2011 for 2018-19 and 2019-20 (as per Appendices- A & B).

Required Documents for NSP Scholarship

During scholarship online application on NSP, the students are required to upload certain documents to complete the application process. However, for the scholarship amount less than INR 50,000, the students are not required to upload any document. They need to submit the copy of documents in their respective schools/college/institute. For all other scholarships, the students should keep the following documents :

  2. Educational documents
  3. Aadhaar number
  4. Domicile Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  5. Income Certificate (as specified in the respective scholarship guidelines)
  6. Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  7. Bonafide student certificate from school/institute (if the institute/school is different from the domicile state of the applicant)
