The National Testing Agency (NTA) invites online applications for the University Grants Commission (UGC) NET – 2024. NTA will conduct UGC-NET December 2024 for the ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ and eligibility for the ‘Assistant Professor’ across 85 subjects, all in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. All eligible and interested male and female candidates can apply online at the UGC NET official website ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

UGC NET December 2024 Eligibility Criteria
- General/UR/General-EWS candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent in Humanities and Social Science (including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, etc. List of subjects at Post Graduation level is attached as Appendix -V.
- OBC belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender category candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination to be eligible for this Test.
- Candidates currently pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course, or candidates awaiting the result of their final year Master’s degree examination, or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed, may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and considered eligible for the award of JRF/eligibility for Assistant Professor only after passing their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks (50% marks for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender category candidates). Such candidates must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of NET result with the required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
Age Limitation:
- JRF: Not more than 30 years as of 1st day of the month in which the examination concludes, i.e., 01.01.2025
- Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.
- Admission to PhD: There is no upper age limit for applying for UGC-NET for Admission to PhD.
How To Apply Online For UGC NET 2024
To apply for the UGC NET exam, follow these steps:
- Visit the official NTA website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in and register online using your own Email Id and Mobile Number.
- Fill out the Online Application Form and make a note of the Application Number generated by the system. Upload scanned images of your recent photograph (file size: 10Kb – 200Kb) with 80% of your face visible against a white background (without a mask), and your signature (file size: 4kb – 30kb).
- Pay the application fee using SBI, CANARA, ICICI, HDFC Bank, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI. Keep proof of the fee payment.
- After successful payment, download, save, and print a copy of the Confirmation Page of the Application Form for future reference.
- Note: The Confirmation Page of the online Application Form will be available for download only after the successful payment of the fee by the candidate.
Uploading of Scanned images for UGC NET Form
i) Candidate’s Photograph Upload:
Candidates must upload a photograph adhering to the following specifications:
- The photograph should not include any cap or goggles.
- The face of the candidate (without a mask) should cover at least 80% of the frame, including the ears, against a white background.
- Note: A passport-size photograph is required for uploading on the Online Application Form and for pasting on the Attendance Sheet at the Examination center.
- Candidates should scan their passport-size photograph for uploading and ensuring the file size is between 10 kb to 200 kb.
ii) Candidate’s Signature Upload:
Candidates are required to upload their full signature in running handwriting in the designated box on the Online Application Form.
- Writing the full name in capital letters in the box will not be accepted as a signature, leading to the rejection of the Application Form.
- And unsigned Online Application Forms will also be rejected.
- Candidates should sign their full name on white paper using a Blue/Black Ink pen and scan it for uploading,
- The file size must be between 04 kb to 30 kb.

UGC NET 2024 Syllabus and Exam Pattern
The Examination shall be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.
The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple choice questions. There will be no break between papers.

UGC NET Exam Medium of Question Paper
- The medium of Question Paper shall be in English & Hindi only
- Option of medium of Question Paper should be carefully chosen by the Candidate, while filling the Application Form online. The option once exercised cannot be changed.
- Candidates opting for Hindi medium in the Application Form will be given bilingual paper, but candidates opting for English medium will be given English version only.
- Candidates are required to answer in the medium as per option exercised in the Application Form.
- In case of any ambiguity in translation/ construction of a question in the exam, its English version shall be treated as final and the decision of NTA shall be final in this regard.
Marking Scheme of UGC NET 2024
- Each question carries 02 (two) marks.
- For each correct response, candidate will get 02 (two) marks.
- There is no negative marking for incorrect response.
- No marks will be given for questions un-answered/un-attempted/marked for Review.
- To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as correct option
- If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit.
- If a question is found to be incorrect and the Question is dropped, then two marks (+2) will be awarded to all those who have appeared in the exam. The reason could be due to human error or technical error.
